Five states and one Union territory have a weekly positivity rate above the national average of 2%, the Union’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday, as the number of infections in India exceeded 11.12 million. Maharashtra leads Kerala, Goa, Chandigarh, Punjab and Gujarat with a weekly positivity rate of 10.02%, the health ministry said. The health ministry also said that India’s active Covid-19 cases stood at 168,358, with the country adding 12,286 new infections in the past 24 hours, Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, Punjab and Tamil Nadu totaling 84.16% of active infections. . Maharashtra and Kerala alone account for 67.84% of the total active cases, he said. The country’s current active workload now accounts for 1.51 percent of total infections in India.

The ministry also said that 80.33 percent of new cases came from five states – Maharashtra continues to report the highest daily infections with 6,397 and is followed by Kerala with 1,938 and Punjab with 633.
“The Center continuously engages with States and TUs that show a higher caseload of active cases and those that report a daily increase in new cases of COVID. States / UTs have been advised to maintain continued rigorous vigilance to contain the spread of COVID-19. The need for effective testing, full follow-up, rapid isolation of positive cases and rapid quarantine of close contacts is strongly emphasized, ”the ministry said.

He also pointed out that eight states – Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Karnataka and Haryana – are showing an upward trajectory in daily new cases.
The number of patients recovering from coronavirus disease soared to 10,798,921 with 12,464 people released between Monday and Tuesday morning.
