Three people were killed and another was injured in a shooting that took place Wednesday night in southwest Houston, Texas, United States, police said.

According to the Houston Police Department, the shooting was reported after 11 p.m. local time outside an apartment complex in southwest Houston.

It all started with five people in the complex parking lot clashing with two men. The men fired several shots at the group, police said.

An 18-year-old man, an 18-year-old woman and a man in his 40s have been confirmed dead in the shooting. Another injured teenager was taken to hospital and is expected to survive. A fifth person in the group was not injured.

Police said the shooters fled the scene and did not have a clear description of them. The incident is considered a mass shooting, that is, when there are three or more victims.
